A close shave

A slight departure from my normal blog content here but I am so impressed with this latest purchase of mine that I had to mention it.

I used to shave every day with an electric shaver. That Braun lasted from approx age 16 through to late 20’s when the shaver fell to pieces. I bought another and had a few, but fewer, good years service from it. That one got replaced by a Panasonic shaver which I wholly regret buying. It was meant to be a wet/dry shaver but it was patchy and rubbish. I started to shave less. The shaver eventually stopped working totally but only after a gradual decline in functionality – the long hair trimmer stopped working. It had to be on charge constantly etc etc.

Some would say this is where I grew up, I started wet shaving regularly. I had always had the occasional wet shave so it wasn’t a revelation but it was a pain. Soap, lather, shave, wash, find missed patches, lather, shave, repeat. I started shaving less frequently. This didn’t bother me at all, hey, from the inside nothing feels very different does it? It was warm in winter. The down side was that my wife became most reluctant to kiss me. That matters a lot to me so a solution had to be found. Fast.

I swung from shaving to not shaving, trying different wet razors. I tried the Azor from King of Shaves. A splendid piece of design but it didn’t cope with my chin’s output at all well. I paid a ridiculous amount for a Gillette razor that actually buzzed as I shaved. It did a good job but it was a pain. It had 5 blades so blocked up easily. Shaving was a chore again, so I did it less. I missed my wife.

Whilst shopping one day I happened across the Remington PG155 Pilot Beard Trimmer, for under £10 in the supermarket. Worth a try I thought.

IMAG0051_s They are quite simply brilliant. Powered by 2 AAA batteries they have a choice of clipper or foil head attachments, guards, combs and brushes. They do a great job of reducing a moderate beard to well groomed stubble in a matter of moments. They are going to travel with me and hopefully keep my beard at an acceptable length.
